New Delhi: The brutal rape and murder of eight-year-old Kathua girl as well as the Unnao incident where a 17-year-old was raped and whose father was allegedly killed in the custody, have turned even the celebrities to stand with them.
Several Bollywood actors joined the protest on Twitter with the hashtag #justiceforourchild, whereas others like the captain of Indian Cricket Team, Virat Kohli released a video criticising the crime and those who defend the crime after being in power.
“I have only one question if something like that happens God forbids to someone in your family, would you stand and watch or would you help?” asks Kohli. “That’s my only question, and I think these things are allowed to happen and people stand there and watch these things happen and they are fine with it because they think it is absolutely fine for something like this happen to a girl,” says Kohli in the video that surfaced.
The cricketer further says, “For men to accept, that it is an opportunity for us to do something like this and get away with this and people in power trying to defend it, it’s absolutely horrible. I think as a society, the fact that these things in certain people’s head are acceptable to a certain degree is disturbing and shocking. I am ashamed to be a part of that society.”
Adding he says “We need to change our thinking, be respectful and as I said put yourself in that situation and think how you feel about it.”
