Virat Kohli on Wednesday dedicated India’s third Test victory against England to the people of Kerala, who have been suffering for days now due to the flood in the state.
Nearly 400 people have lost their lives in flood-ravaged Kerala after the state witnessed the worst floods in almost a century. Flood waters have razed tens of thousands of homes, and washed away roads and bridges. Around 1.3 million are sheltering in thousands of relief camps.
The state government is now seeking nearly USD 1.4 billion to finance reconstruction work due to the destruction.
“We as a team want to dedicate this win to the flood victims in Kerala. (Applause from the crowd). A tough time there, and this is our bit that we can do,” Kohli said after being adjudged man-of-the-match at the post-match presentation.
