Fierce clashes broke out between jail authorities and prisoners in a prison here Wednesday morning.
Confirming the incident, SSP A Satya Narayan told a news channel that when the jail inmates entered the mess to have their breakfast, quarrel broke out between the prisoners, which turned violent.
“When the constables tried to intervene they were attacked by the inmates. The prisoners burnt the LPG cylinders and pelted stones on jail authorities. Deputy Jailor including some constables and few prisoners were injured in the incident.”
The Additional Director General of Police for prisons confirmed that shots were fired in the air to reign in the inmates.
The SSP of Meerut reached the prison and tried to restore law and order inside the jail.
