Violence in Rohtak over opening of an ashram by controversial Godman

Rohtak (Haryana), May 12 (ANI): Violence erupted as people, mostly followers of Arya samaj, people protested agaist the opering of the Satlok Ashram in Rohtak leading to a clash between the youth and police, which claimed the life of one, and left several others injured.

Angry mobs clashed with the police and set two buses on fire during the violent protest here on Sunday against the opening of an ashram of the controversial Godman. Following the violence, the police opened fire and resorted to baton charge to disperse the mob, injuring several protesters, one of whom succumbed to the injuries in a hospital, at Karontha village of Rohtak. The crowds, mostly of activists from the Arya Samaj sect, were protesting against the opening of the Satlok Ashram headed by godman Rampal at Karontha village. Nearly 10,000 supporters of Rampal had gathered inside the ashram complex . The protestors marched towards the ashram where they were stopped by the police on the Rohtak-Jhajjar national highway. Tension had been brewing in the area for the past week following opposition to the ashram by the Arya Samaj members. They were joined by residents of Karontha village in the protests on Sunday. (ANI)
