Violence not the route to T: TDP

Hyderabad, December 07: The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has urged the State Government to intervene and see to it that TRS chief K Chandrasekhara Rao calls off his fast. Speaking to reporters here today, TDP leaders N Janardhan Reddy and T Devender Goud said statehood would not be achieved through violence and appealed to agitators not to destroy public and private property.

Damaged government properties could be rebuilt to some extent, but destruction of private properties would ruin individuals and render nought at one blow a lifetime of hard work.

They said that the TDP had taken a pro-Telangana stand and would abide by it. The party had already communicated its decision to the Pranab Mukherjee committee, but it was the Congress that had not made its stand clear on the matter, they alleged.

They, however, would not back the agitation launched by TRS. “No political party will support a movement launched by another,’’ they maintained. But TDP would back the Government resolution in favour of separate Telangana, if introduced in the Assembly.

The TDP leaders appealed to students and youths not to resort to suicides.

The agitation should follow a “Gandhian model’’, they stressed.
