Violence kills 5 people in Iraq’s Mosul

Mosul, October 23: At least five people have lost their lives and three others suffered injuries in the latest string of terrorist attacks targeting Iraqi people in the volatile northern city of Mosul.

In the first incident, a member of Iraqi police personnel was killed on Thursday when an improvised explosive device (IED) was detonated in close proximity to a police patrol at New Mosul neighborhood in western the part of the city.

The terrorist attack occurred on the same day as three civilians were hurt after a bomb explosion ripped through an Iraqi police patrol vehicle at al-Majmoua’a al-Thaqafiya district of northern Mosul. Ambulances and civilian cars meanwhile evacuated the victims to a nearby hospital.

An Iraqi police source, seeking anonymity, told Voices of Iraq news agency that a retired major general of the former Iraqi army was among those to have sustained wounds in the assault. He added the victims were passing the scene when the blast took place.

A policeman and an assailant were also killed in separate confrontations between Iraqi security forces and armed men in Nabuls neighborhood in western Mosul.

The body of the gunman is currently being kept at a morgue to help police carry out forensic investigations.

Two civilians were also killed Wednesday in two separate terror attacks in Mosul.

Moreover, a man fatally shot his wife and six children inside their home at Rubaiaa district — some 120 km (75 miles) west of Mosul. The father then shot himself, causing himself serious injuries. He was rushed to a hospital under police custody.
