Hindu activists and the members of Hindu Vahini tried to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere of Bhainsa Town yesterday on the occasion of Sri Rama Navami.
Hindu Vahini activists fixed DJ sound boxes on a taxi car making a loud noise. They tried to take out a procession without police permission.
State Secretary of Hindu Vahini, S. Srinu and other leaders, namely, Tukaram, Ramakant, Gali Ravi, Patel, Lingam, Dinesh, Mahesh, Raju, Ravi etc. took out a procession. They wanted to proceed towards Panjeshah Chowk passing through Purana Bazar. DSP of Bhainsa, Dr. Devi Das Nagal tried to stop the processionists. Police had an apprehension that if the procession reached near the mosque in Panjeshah, violence might break out. DSP tried to persuade the processionists to divert the route of the procession but the activists of Hindu Vahini were adamant to pass through that route.
Meanwhile, the activists of Hindu Vahini pushed the DSP. Policemen came into action and started lathi charge. The activists, in turn, started pelting stones on police. In the meantime, the idols of Seetha and Rama got damaged. The Hindu activists got further violent and alleged that policemen damaged the idols.
A Muslim family was traveling in an autorickshaw. The Hindu activists attacked the passengers of the autorickshaw and injured them. Ms. Ghousia Begum, her son Shaik Naseer and auto driver Sahik Bashu got seriously injured. They went to DSP’s office and lodged a complaint. DSP came into action immediately and arrested S. Srinivas, Ramakant, Gali Ravi, Lingam and others.
Irritated with the arrests of their leaders, Hindu Vahini activists started the shopkeepers to shut their shops as mark of protest. Police made an attempt to stop the Hindu activists who were forcing the shopkeepers to close down their shops. Police again resorted to lathi charge. Panic prevailed and rumours started making rounds in the town.
Acting rapidly, the DSP clamped section 144 in the town and posted police pickets an all the places of worship. Police made elaborate arrangements to maintain law and order in the town. SP of Adilabad, Mr. S.S. Tripathi contacted the DSP on phone and got the information. He instructed the police officials to maintain law and order situation under control.
Due to the timely alertness of the police, the miscreants failed to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere of the town. The situation had become tense but the police controlled it by commissioning additional police force from the other parts of the district.
