Kotkapura (Punjab), Oct 14 : Violence broke out in Punjab’s Kotkapura city on Wednesday after the Sikh protestors and police personnel clashed over allegations of desecration of a religious text.
The protestors blocked several roads and burnt vehicles, including an anti-riot vehicle. The police resorted to baton charge and sprayed water cannons to disperse the agitating crowd.
As per reports, the situation in and around Kotkapura is tensed after pages of a scripture were found scattered in a street that housed a Gurdwara, in a village nearby.
According to reports, a Sikh religious body has called for a shutdown in the areas around Kotkapura, including Bathinda, Faridkot, Barnala and Ferozepur among others, on Thursday over the alleged desecration.(ANI)
