Surinsar Lake (Jammu), April 23: Surinsar lake’s muddy and unhygienic water is being piped to 15 villages for drinking purpose for many years and the locals demand for setting up a filtration plant is yet to be fulfilled.
“We are getting muddy and unhygienic water supply drained from Surinsar lake for past several years. We are forced to drink the dirty water as government has failed to provide us safe drinking water,” Angrez Singh of Purkhral village told a group of reporters here.
Like Singh, other villagers of various hamlets Chilla, Jaithali, Panjwa and Surinsar alleged that their houses were also receiving the contaminated water and their pleas to the government had fallen to deaf ears.
They also said that they fear a threat from water-borne diseases.
