Thane, April 18:People from Vasai today started a march to protest exclusion of 35 villages from the Vasai-Virar Muncipal Corporation.
The Long March, led by local MLA, Vivek Pandit, who was elected on the single agenda over the inclusion of the villages in the corporation, paid rich tributes to martyrs at the Martyrs Memorial and undertook the march along the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway.
Mr Pandit is the leader of the Sangarsha Samiti, which includes people from Vasai from all political parties.
The march will reach National Park today from Chinchoti, where it had began its onward journey to reach Vidhan Bhavan tomorrow.
Mr Pandit and the processionists are confident that the speaker of the state assembly Dileep Valshe Patil will take note of the protest and the feelings of the villagers and direct the state government to immediately issue the notification to exclude these villages and give them the original status.
The main attraction was the march of the cattle in rows.
