Village women in Kanpur being trained to make sanitary napkins

Kanpur: The District Administration here has started an initiative to train village women in making sanitary napkins which will be distributed free of cost.

The scheme has been initiated by the state health department.

The first unit for production of sanitary napkins named ‘Subah’ was started today with the help of the Panchayat.

Five women would make 500 napkins in a single shift which would later grow to 1,000 units each day in different shifts, once more women gets trained.

“The Panchayat department is imparting training to village women in production of sanitary napkins allowing them to earn a living and also help in keeping the cost of the produce low,” District Magistrate Roshan Jacob said.

These would also be sold in the market with 10 sanitary napkins costing Rs 13, he said.

The state health department has recently stated the initiative to provide sanitary napkins to the village women free of cost to promote hygiene during menstrual cycle and after giving birth, the DM said.

Stressing the district administration and Panchayat Department aims to make Kanpur a sanitary napkin production hub, Jacob said that many private firms have been invited to start their production unit in this district.
