New Delhi [India]: With just few days to go for the mega double title defence fight, Vijender Singh’s trainer Lee Beard is confident of the Indian boxing sensation’s knockout win against African middleweight champion from Ghana Ernest Amuzu at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium on December 23 in Jaipur.
Vijender will be defending his WBO Oriental and Asia Pacific Super middleweight titles, which he won after winning six bouts abroad and three in India. This bout will be his fourth in the country.
While Ernest Amuzu is leaving no stone unturned to make his punches stronger by the day, the Indian boxing sensation is not far behind either.
As the fight is coming closer, the intensity of Vijender’s training is increasing day by day and his trainer Lee Beard is very impressed with the hard work Vijender is putting in.
“He is training very hard in India from the last sometime, he has been sparring 10-12 rounds daily with 3-4 different guys and also putting the strength and condition to work hard also. We know about the opponent, and we have been working on the technical part of the game planning. We have run a few tests on him and he looks in good shape for the fight,” he said.
Talking about Vijender’s opponent, Lee Beard said “You know Ernest Amuzu has got a good record, and he is strong fighter who has played a lot of fights but Vijender is an amazing boxer and always focused on the strategies planned by us. Vijender has boxed off many tough fighters who have had different style of boxing, but southpaw is bit more difficult to fight & he has fought less opponents of southpaw. But he is good at every technical style boxing. This is a fight which he should be able to control easily enough with his jabbing and boxing abilities, it’s just he’s been in the ring many times with fighters similar to Amuzu, so this should not oppose to many difficulties to adjust from southpaw to orthodox because he has done too many times in his career over the years”.
“We are looking to put on a good show, he has been training hard. We just had a great session and he feels strong. Technically also he is going great and is hitting it very clean and accurate. So I think he will be able to control the fight in the first 2-3 rounds, start breaking his opponent down, hopefully in the middle rounds get the guy out with it. And vijender is much more gifted than Amuzu, it’s not about what Amuzu is going bring for him, he just has to put a good show and perform his best when gets in that ring that’ll be enough for him. And as long he will perform and sticks to the game plan that we have set on he should be able to control able to the control first few rounds” added Lee Beard.
This will be Vijender’s last fight of 2017 and the Indian wishes to end the year on a winning note that too with a knockout win.
On the other hand, Amuzu holds a good record of 25 fights with 23 wins (21 Knockouts), and two loss having played 122 rounds of professional boxing.
Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Amandeep Singh and two times Asian Boxing champion Kuldeep Singh will also be featured in the six all-Indian undercard bouts of Vijender Singh’s fight night.(ANI)
