Vijayawada police chief in obscene SMS scandal, inquiry ordered

Hyderabad, January 6: A TV channel has telecast a news report with allegations that the Vijayawada police commissioner Mr. Sitaramanjaneyulu has sent obscene messages on the mobile phone given to him by the government. The report said that he has made hundreds of calls to women and sent SMS messages with obscene comments.

The report said that he sent an SMS to a woman stating that she would look beautiful if she wore a particular saree and if she did not tie her hair. In another message he has asked another woman why they could not move little more closely. In yet another message, he is alleged to have asked the receiver to keep their relationship a secret as he (Commissioner) had several enemies.

The news channel said that it has evidence to prove that the Commissioner made hundreds of calls to the daughter of an industrialist. It also said that he had sent messages even to a lady doctor.

The channel said that it had all the information about the messages sent by the Commissioner and whom he had called and how long he had talked with each person. It also said it has the names and addresses of all the woman to whom the commissioner has sent messages and with whom he has talked. The channel said it was not divulging the information as it did not like defaming the women.

The channel said that it had invited Mr. Sitaramanjaneyulu to talk about these messages live on the channel, and he has admitted to have sent the messages. He has also expressed happiness that he was given an opportunity to speak in the programme conducted by Mr. Vemuri Radha Krishna, MD of the channel.

The commissioner has however said that TDP Vijayawada chief Mr. Vallabhaneni Vamsi has played a game with him and he has also played a game in response. Stating that he was innocent and had done nothing wrong, the commissioner said that he was prepared for any enquiry. He said his wife knew about his character and alleged that Vamsi had planned this trap. Stating that he had not fallen into Vamsi’s trap, the commissioner said he had only played a game. When Radha Krishna has questioned the commissioner if he had informed his superiors about his game in advance, he said he did not owe an answer to it. He has said that he did inform the proper persons to the extent necessary.

Meanwhile Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Wednesday directed Director General of Police K Aravinda Rao to order an enquiry into the allegations levelled against the Vijayawada Police Commissioner Seetharamanjaneyulu that he has sent vulgar and objectionable SMSs to some women.

Reacting to reports aired on a private TV channel about the conduct of the Police Commissioner, the Chief Minister said that appropriate disciplinary action would be taken against the guilty on receipt of the enquiry report.

Following the directions of Chief Minister, DGP Aravinda Rao said a comprehensive inquiry would be ordered into the allegations against Seetharamjaneyulu and action would be taken based on the probe report.
