Vijayawada-Hyderabad highway closed to traffic

Hyderabad, October 06: With Krishna river overflowing at Ibrahimpatnam near Vijayawada, the State police have decided to close the Vijayawada-Hyderabad road to vehicular traffic for time being.

All the traffic police stations and superintendents of police have been alerted to regulate traffic as per the directions issued by the director-general of police.

Traffic will not be allowed from West Godavari and Guntur districts towards Nalgonda district and Hyderabad beyond Vijayawada.

Instead, vehicles from West Godavari will be diverted through Khammam and Warangal districts.

Traffic from Prakasam and Guntur districts will be diverted via Nalgonda district.

The Nalgonda district police will diver traffic from Hyderabad towards Guntur, Warangal and Khammam district bypassing Vijayawada.

All police stations on the highways concerned are being alerted to this effect and the superintendents of police of these districts have been asked to prepare alternative routes as per requirement without causing major inconvenience to commuters.

APSRTC authorities and lorry owners’ associations have also been informed accordingly.

The police commissioner of Vijayawada has been instructed to coordinate the entire exercise and keep in touch with the DGP headquarters for further orders.
