Vijayawada hoteliers to dish out longest dosa

Vijaywada, April 02: Vijayawada hoteliers will attempt at making the longest dosa ever to break the Guinness record and thus put the city on the international map. The Vijayawada Hotel Owners’ Association proposes to organise this feat as part of its golden jubilee celebrations to be held on April 9 and 10.

Association president K. Pattabhi Ram and the golden jubilee celebrations organising committee chairman M. Murali Krishna told The Hindu that Sankalp Restaurant of Ahmedabad holds the Guinness record of making a 32.5-feet dosa in August 2009. The restaurant had broken its own record of a 30-feet dosa in February 2006.

Observers of the Guinness Book of World Records from London will witness the attempt to break the record. A 54-feet tawa (pan) has been designed and a team of 30 persons are practicing regularly.

“Maintaining uniform temperature along the entire length of the pan and 30 people working in perfect unison are some of the challenges that have to be surmounted to break the record,” Mr. Pattabhi Ram said. Beginning with a 35-feet dosa, attempts would be made to make longer dosas in subsequent attempts, he said. The record-breaking bid will be made on the first day of the two-day conference of hoteliers from all over the country at Siddhartha Auditorium. A sports meet for hoteliers would also be held.
