Vijayamma declares support to UPA

The interview of the YSR Congress honorary president Vijayamma to an English daily has become a hot political topic now. Vijayamma said her party would support the UPA government after the 2014 elections.

There was instantaneous criticism that the YSR Congress Party was eager to have a patch-up with the Congress, to secure Jaganmohan Reddy’s release from jail. TDP leader Payyavula Keshav and TRS leader K T Rama Rao said the interview was a clear indication that the YSR Congress was begging the Congress to release Jagan. Keshav said the interview was a clear indication that the YSR Congress was getting closer to the Congress.

He said it was strange that Vijayamma was extending a hand of friendship though the Congress had not asked for it. Vijayamma even said the Congress wants her party to merge and they were unwilling for it.

When the interviewer asked Vijayamma about Congress and Sonia Gandhi, she said she was pained by their style and alleged that they had insulted her and her family members. She questioned what had they done to deserve this treatment. She said Rajasekhara Reddy served the Congress for 30 years with commitment and brought the party back to power twice. She also reminded that after becoming chief minister, YSR named every scheme after the Nehru-Gandhi families.
