The YSR Congress has celebrated the party’s Foundation Day through out the state on Tuesday.
At the central office here, party’s honorary president Vijayamma unveiled the party flag and addressed a gathering of party leaders and cadres.
Giving clarification on her interview to the Economic Times English newspaper, she said she had not said that her party would give blanket support to the UPA government as was being alleged by other opposition parties. She said her party would assess the state’s interests and would support the government that comes to power in 2014, be it the UPA or the third front. She reiterated that her party would support the union government, keeping the state’s interests in mind.
Vijayamma expressed confidence that her party would win 30 to 35 Lok Sabha seats whenever elections were held. She said Jagan was always with the people and asserted that despite being in the jail, his thoughts were always about the people. She questioned about the need for her party to join hands with any other party as the people were with them. She alleged that the “Yellow Media” was indulging a vicious campaign of falsehood. She sarcastically said every one knew which party would survive the 2014 elections. She said Economic Times published what she said in the second page while it wrote something else in the first page.
Vijayamma lamented that there was no political party that thought about the people after the death of her husband Dr. Y S Rajasekhara Reddy. She said the present government was not continuing the welfare schemes introduced by YSR. Stating that YSR always used to think about the people, she said Jagan was now following his footsteps.
Vijayamma said that the YSR Congress was launched as there was no other party or leader worrying about the people now. She said YSRCP has now become a household party. Reminding that Jagan was amid the people for two-and-a-half years through his ‘Odarpu Yatra’ Vijayamma said now Sharmila took that responsibility.
Reiterating her charge that Jagan was jailed though he was innocent, she said even bail was being denied to him on the pretext that he would influence the witnesses, being the president of a party and MP. She questioned if Jagan did not influence the witnesses when he was amid the people. She said whenever she met Jagan, he was asking her to be with the people. She also advised the party leaders and workers to be amid people in their difficult period.
Vijayamma lamented that now the TDP was targeting even her daughter Sharmila and her husband Br. Anil Kumar. She said a day would come when they would be in a position to give a fitting reply to the critics of their family. She has alleged that Jagan was sent to jail with untenable charges.
