YSR Congress Party honorary president YS Vijayamma on Monday accused the State Government of adopting lackadaisical approach in undertaking rehabilitation measures in the flood affected areas.
Talking to reporters after after visiting the flood affected areas in and around Eluru of West Godavari district, Vijayamma said that the government could have prevented or at least minimised the damages by taking precautions. However, she said that the government totally failed to anticipate the gravity of the situation which led to heavy loss of human lives and properties.
Vijayamma said that the damage could have been minimal if the government would have constructed the Tammileru Protection Wall. She said an amount of Rs 19 crore was released by former Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy for the construction of protection wall. He sanctioned another Rs 28 crore, which are yet to be released by the Kiran Kumar Reddy Government, she said.
Slamming the Chief Minister and other ministers for giving priority to their visits in Delhi than meeting the flood victims, she demanded that the government pay adequate compensation to the people for all the losses. She also promised that the YSRCP leaders and workers would participate in the relief and rehabilitation activities.
