All India Congress Committee member A Vijaya Rao on Tuesday expressed serious displeasure over the High Command’s decision to field Gantela Sumana from Payakaraopeta Assembly constituency in Visakhapatnam district.
In protest against the High Command’s decision, Vijaya Rao staged a sit-in dharna before the Gandhi Statue in Gandhi Bhavan premises.
Stating Gantela Sumana had joined the Congress party from Telugu Desam, Vijaya Rao said that Sumana has lost three times consecutively in the elections. He alleged that Sumana had even contested independently. She said giving party ticket to Sumana, who indulged in anti-party activities, would send wrong message among people and damage the party’s image. She appealed to High Command to reconsider its decision and allot ticket to a suitable person.
Following the assurance given by PCC vice-president M Gangadhar that he would take up her issue with Congress high command, Vijaya Rao called off her dharna. (INN)
