Chandigarh, September 08: The Vigilance Bureau Punjab today arrested a senior official on the charge of taking bribe from a man aspiring for a job.
T K Goel, Joint Secretary in the Department of Welfare of SC/BCs, was apprehended for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000/ from George Shubh.
B K Bawa, IGP-cum-Director of Vigilance Bureau said Goel was arrested from his office in Chandigarh while accepting the money from George Shubh, a Balmiki by caste, by a Vigilance team.
He complainant George Shubh had applied to the Deputy Commissioner of Kapurthala for his nomination as a Numbadar of Begowal on the basis of his caste. Amarjit Singh Balmik of the same village had also applied for the same post.
However, the Deputy Commissioner had rejected his nomination on the ground that he had embraced Christianity and could not be considered under the Balmiki quota for Numbadari.
