Video: Incessant rains throw normal life out of gear

Normal life in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad and their outskirts was badly hit as the incessant rains continue to lash for the second consecutive day on Tuesday.

Water logging led to traffic jams on several important roads in the twin cities. Vehicular traffic was badly affected in areas including Medchal, Alwal, Sainikpuri, Secunderabad, Kukatpally, Jubilee Hills, Panjagutta, Ameerpet, Malkajgiri, Sanathnagar, Nampally, Mehdipatnam, Abids and Lakdi-ka-pul.

Continuous rains since Sunday night increased the water levels in almost all reservoirs in the GHMC limits. So far, water levels have crossed danger level in 10 out of 169 lakes and tanks in the GHMC limits. The administration has alerted the people in low lying areas and began preparations to shift them to safer places if required. With an inflow of about 2,000 cusecs and outflow of 600 cusec, the water level in the Hussainsagar is on the rise.

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has set up a control room with number 100 and 21111111 and also started a Help Desk to assist the people in case of emergencies. Besides the Central Emergency Team at GHMC headquarters, five zonal teams have also been formed. Similarly, 30 Circle teams have also been deployed.

Meanwhile, Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav held a review meeting with the GHMC’s top officials and Corporators to review the rain situation.

Continuous rainfall has also affected the coal production in Kothagudem and mining operations were suspended in Kothagudem, Munugode, Koyagudem, Kondapuram, Gautampur and GVR open cast mines. (INN)
