Video: Woman beaten up, forced to carry husband on shoulders

Bhopal: In a shameful incident reported from MP’s tribal-dominated village, a married woman was thrashed for running away from her home with her lover.

The 27-year-old married woman was not only beaten up but the villagers also shamed her and forced her to carry her husband on her shoulders as her punishment, MP’s Jhabhua district.

Two persons involved in the incident have been arrested by the police after a video showing that has gone viral shows the woman struggling to walk as her husband sits on his shoulders while men around her condemn her for her attempting to elope with another man.

An old man can be seen laughing and dancing in front of her as she struggles to take steps while another man hits her with a stick. Unable to bear her husband’s weight, the victim is forced to continue to walk.

Though she had successfully eloped with her lover to Gujarat, her in-laws traced her two days back and brought her to Devigarh yesterday.

The video was shot and widely shared on WhatsApp.

Vijay Dawar, Additional Superintendent Of Police, Devigarh, giving more details, said, “The woman left her home about ten days back. About 10-12 men misbehaved with the woman after she was back in the village and publicly shamed; they snatched her dupatta. We are trying to ensure there isn’t a repeat of such incidents.”
