VIDEO: Water level in city lake crosses danger mark, evacuate 500 families

Water level in the Hussainsagar lake has touched the danger mark following heavy rains in the last two days.

Though the authorities were releasing the water after it reached its full capacity level, flood waters from nearby areas were constantly flowing into lake due to intermittent heavy rains in the catchment areas. The authorities are now planning to release more water from Hussainsagar as water level has reached beyond its capacity which crossed danger level.

The Hussainsagar water also gushed into Lumbani Park on the bank of the lake. The water did not reach Lumbani park earlier even after rains. But this was first time after 15 years that the lake water entered Lumbani Park.

Civic authorities have given an alert to the people living on the banks of Hussainsagar nala and have taken measures to evacuate people to safer places.

In view of water levels in Hussain sagar touching danger mark, the Hyderabad district authorities evacuated people living in areas abutting the lake and issued possible flood alert. They said areas like Domalguda, Ashok Nagar, Himayathnagar and a few slums in Musheerabad mandal may get affected in case of more rains.

“Sensing the danger, we have evacuated nearly 500 families from two major slum areas – Arundhati Nagar and Sabarmathi Nagar -which are severely affected due to fl oods. These two areas are located near an open nala (behind NTR Stadium, Indira Park).
