Dubai: Uber to launch flying taxi and the first test flight of the aircraft was carried out on 20th April. Users can request an Aurora eVTOL aircraft via its computer or mobile software applications.
Director of Engineering for Uber, Mark Moore said that Uber is going to launch world’s first electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing (eVTOL) aircraft and Aurora Flight Science is going to help them in launching this service. He also said that this eVTOL will improve urban mobility around the world.
According to the news published in Khaleej Times, Aurora’s eVTOL concept is derived from its XV-24A X-plane programme currently underway for the US Department of Defense and other autonomous aircraft the company has developed over the years.
Talking about the features of the eVTOL, CEO of Aurora, John Langford said that it is reliable, low cost and will lower the noise pollution.
After first test flight of the aircraft on 20th April, the goal is to deliver 50 aircraft for testing by 2020.
Talking on this move, Christopher Free, GM of Uber UAE said that the goal is to have the first Uber Elevate Network demonstration in Dubai by 2020.
