Victorious Nawaz Sharif tells Imran Khan to ‘show sportsman’s spirit’

After winning the elections in Pakistan, to-be prime minister Nawaz Sharif of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), has asked former cricketer and now chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e- Insaaf (PTI), Imran Khan, to ‘show sportsman’s spirit’ and stop saying that the polls were rigged.

Supporters of Imran Khan were taken aback by the PTI’s failure to emerge as the winner. A large number of PTI supporters took to the streets of Lahore and Karachi demanding re-polling after expressing disappointment about the outcome.

Taking Khan’s cricket history as the theme, Sharif chastised the former for his lack of good spirit in taking failure sportingly. He said that the Taliban violence was responsible for the ‘unbalanced playing field’ for the PTI party and that the elections were by no means unfair.

In a report by The Guardian, Sharif while speaking to the journalists, indicated that the CIA-drone attacks in the tribal belt bordering Afghanistan was challenging the nation’s sovereignty and that he will certainly talk with the American ‘friends’ on this issue.

The leader considered militancy and extremism was hurting Pakistan’s economy and that he looks forward to renew the diplomatic charm which he was pursuing before being disposed and sent to exile by Musharraf. (ANI)
