Vice-chancellor slapped with contempt notice

Allahabad, September 03: The Allahabad High Court today issued a notice to the Vice-Chancellor of Chhatrapati Shauji Maharaj University in Kanpur on a contempt petition and asked him to appear in person on September 15.

The order was passed by Justice Sabhajeet Yadav on the contempt petition of Pawan Kumar and others who had alleged non-compliance of an earlier judgement dated November 07, 2008.

The petition was filed as the petitioners, who had passed their B Ed entrance tests in the year 2007-08 conducted by the Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj University, said they were denied admission to colleges of their choice.

The court had directed the V-C to ensure the petitioners got entry into colleges as per their merit.

In addition to the vice-chancellor, the court also directed the Secretary, Higher Education, Uttar Pradesh, and the Chairman/Secretary of the Joint Examination Committee for the B Ed entrance tests held in 2007-08 as they too have been made respondents by the petitioners.
