VHR condemns AP Govt for not allowing Roja to participate in women’s meet

Congress senior leader and former MP V. Hanumantha Rao condemned Andhra Pradesh Government for not allowing YSRCP MLA Roja to participate in Women Parliamentarian’s conference in Vijayawada.

Speaking to media persons at Gandhi Bhavan, VHR said that being an elected representative Roja had a right to participate in the event. He said it was unethical on the part of AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to deny permission to Roja. She said as a woman politician Roja could have expressed her views and given some constructive suggestions. He said the treatment meted out to Roja has exposed the hollowness of Naidu’s tall talk on women’s empowerment.

VHR also accused TRS MP K. Kavitha of hiding the truth of suppression of women in Telangana State. He said even after two-and-a-half years, Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao has failed to induct a woman minister in his cabinet.

The Congress leader alleged that there was a rise in crimes and atrocities against women. He said that the BJP-led NDA Government was not properly implementing the Nirbhaya Act which was introduced by the previous UPA Government. (INN)
