VHR blames BJP MLC for Rohit Vemula’s suicide

Congress senior leader and Rajya Sabha MP V. Hanumantha Rao has demanded probe into the involvement of BJP MLC N. Ramchander Rao in the incidents related to University of Hyderabad, including suicide by Rohit Vemula, a Dalit research scholar.

Addressing a press conference at Gandhi Bhavan here on Monday, VHR claimed that when OU Law College Principal Prof Gali Vinod Kumar advised UoH VC Appa Rao to revoke the suspension of four students, he expressed helplessness and said only Ramchander Rao could resolve the issue. He said Ramchander Rao had played a major role in suspension of five students which consequently led Rohit Vemula suicide. He demanded that a case under SC/ST Atrocities (Prevention) Act be booked against the BJP MLC.

VHR said inaction by Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao in Rohit Vemula’s case would give rise to suspicion that KCR too was acting at the behest of RSS and Sangh Parivar. Condemning Union Labour Minister Bandaru Dattatraya for his alleged remarks in the letter that HCU has become a den of anti-national elements, he said that the university has become a den of RSS and ABVP activities to promote communalism. He also alleged that Ramchander Rao was trying to get his brother Prof. Ramana Rao, former AP EAMCET Convener, as the Secretary of AICTE.

Speaking about GHMC elections, he said that the Congress campaigning was going on well and appealed to the people, especially youth to vote for Congress party. (INN)
