VHP to move Supreme Court against Ayodhya verdict

Lucknow, October 21: The appeal will be filed on behalf of “Ram Lalla Virajman”

The “sant uchadhikar samiti” (high-power committee of holy men) of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad on Wednesday decided to file an appeal in the Supreme Court against the September 30 verdict of the Allahabad High Court.

According to the media in charge of the VHP, Sharad Sharma, the appeal would be filed on behalf of “Ram Lalla Virajman,” who is a party to the Ayodhya title dispute.

The meeting, held at Karsevakpuram in Ayodhya on Wednesday, was presided over by Mahant Avaidyanath of Gorakhshpeeth in Gorakhpur.

A delegation of saints led by Shankaracharya of Jyotirmath Swami Vasudevanand Saraswati will meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. The purpose of the meeting and when it would be held was not disclosed by VHP leaders. As regards the filing of an appeal in the Supreme Court, the meeting felt that only a Ram temple could be built in “Ram janmasthan” and the mosque can be built elsewhere. The “sant samaj” was ready to talk on the issue of building a mosque, it was said in the meeting.

A resolution adopted at the meeting welcomed the High Court verdict, but said the construction of a Ram temple at the Ayodhya site was in the interests of the Hindus and (nationalist) Muslims. Another resolution said the court verdict had offered a fine opportunity for fostering national unity, and added that Muslims should voluntarily hand over the one-third of the disputed Ayodhya land for the construction of the temple.

A resolution said only a Ram temple would be built on the 67 acres acquired by the Central government. The resolution was moved by Swami Vasudevanand Saraswati and seconded by Mahant Nritya Gopal Das.

The meeting was attended by VHP president Ashok Singhal and general secretary Praveen Togadia.

Mahasabha meet

The working committee of the Akhil Bharatiya Hindu Mahasabha will meet in Ayodhya on October 31 for discussing the construction of the temple and development of the town.

Hindu Mahasabha president Swami Chakrapani said in Ayodhya that an amicable solution could be found to the vexed issue through talks.

The Mahasabha earlier this month filed a caveat in the Supreme Court on the Babri title dispute.
