VHP has no role in BJP’s infighting : Singhal

Chennai, September 20: Indicating the widening gulf between the BJP and the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), Mr Ashok Singhal today said the VHP had nothing to do with the ongoing crisis in the saffron party.

Talking to reporters after launching VHP’s Web TV here, VHP International President Ashok Singhal said he had nothing to do with senior BJP leader L K Advani’s reported offer to step down as the Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha over the recent intra-party wranglings.

The VHP had no role in the recent infighting in the BJP and that it had not asked Mr Advani to quit the Opposition leader’s post.

Stating that the VHP was not ‘distancing’ itself from the BJP over the recent infighting in the wake of its debacle in the recent Lok Sabha polls, Mr Singhal hinted that the VHP would support in the ensuing Assembly polls in Maharashtra.

He dismissed as “absolutely incorrect”, when asked whether the VHP was distancing itself from the BJP.

”What is this question”, Mr Singhal shot back, to a query on whether the VHP would extend support to the BJP in the Maharashtra polls.
