Alleging that the decision of changing of Secretariat from the existing one was anti-people, TPCC Chief N Uttam Kumar Reddy has made it clear that the Congress party was against the construction of new secretariat at Bison Polo grounds.
Senior Congress leader V Hanumantha Rao has conducted opinion poll on construction of new secretariat at Bison Polo Grounds on September 26 at 20 places across the city. The counting of votes was held at Somajiguda Press Club here on September 27. Of the total 20,000 votes polled, 18,460 people cast their votes against construction of new secretariat and 387 voters sought construction of new secretariat and 142 votes held invalid and 39 voters wrote comments on ballet paper.
Speaking on the occasion along with V H, Uttam said that construction of new secretariat was not a peoples’ welfare activity and it was clearly wasting of public money. The voting pattern clearly says that the people were against the construction of new secretariat, he said. The existing secretariat buildings would sustain for 100 years and the government has to shift other offices located at various places across the city to secretariat as half of the buildings were vacant.
The State government was contemplating to spend Rs 1,600 crore to the new secretariat and Assembly and the decision was purely anti-people decision, he stated. He said the Congress party would conduct opinion poll even in the districts too if needed. (NSS)
