Mr. Mohammed Mahmood Ali, Dy. CM of Telangana State while inaugurating two day seminar at Urdu Maskan, Khilwath announced that Govt. of Telangana will take all possible steps for the development of Muslims. Lessons pertaining to Qutub Shahi and Asif Jahi rulers will be included in the syllabus. Teaching of Urdu in Government, private and corporate schools would be made compulsory wherever ten students are available. He told that during the past 57 years Urdu was deliberately neglected. This is our language and we will develop it. Mentioning the developmental programs for Minorities initiated by Mr. KCR, he proposed that Urdu Academy should consider the proposal of giving monthly pension to Veteran Urdu Journalists and Writers on the lines of Aasra Scheme. He also announced that Urdu Maskan would be made air-conditioned. The budget allocated for Minorities would be utilized fully. He appealed to ladies to start household industries for which Govt. will support. Sewing machines would be given to women.
The two-day seminar and four day cultural programs are being organized by Urdu Academy in connection with Telangana Formation Day. Prof. S.A. Shukoor, Director of Urdu Academy told that the standard of teaching Urdu has been deteriorating day by day. Urdu Academy is making an attempt to improve the standard of Urdu. He informed that Telangana Urdu Academy has the largest budget in the entire country. All the schemes would be implemented fully.
Prof. Abdus Sattar Dalwi (Mumbai) presided over the first session of the seminar. He told that Urdu Academy of Telangana State is very active and its role in the entire country is very important. Urdu is the common cultural heritage. This era is the period of moulding the minds of the younger generation through education in Urdu. These days, non-Urdu speaking persons are also getting attracted to learn Urdu.
Prof. Ashraf Rafi, former Head of the Dept. of Urdu, OU presented the key note address. In her address she traced out the status of Urdu right from Qutub Shahi period. She told that Asif Jahi period was the golden period for the development of Urdu.
Noted Journalist, Mr. Naseem Arifi pointed out towards the deterioration of Urdu language for which he blamed the Governments. He pointed out that the numbers of Urdu medium schools is getting reduced and there is no one to take care of this situation. He informed that teaching of Urdu is available only in Islamic Madarsas. Senior Journalist and Media Coordinator of Maulana Azad National Urdu University, Mr. Meer Ayub Ali Khan told that Urdu Journalism which had immerged during the freedom movement of India is now deteriorating. The readers of Urdu newspapers are getting reduced. Dr. Mustafa Kamal, Editor of Shugoofa, Urdu monthly journal told that there is a need to find out the solution for the critical situation Urdu newspapers are facing. Prof. Baig Ehsas, former Head of the Dept. of Urdu of University of Hyderabad conducted the meeting. The first session was presided over by Prof. Abdus Sattar Dalwi. Prof. Naseemuddin Farees, Dr. Habeeb Nisar and Prof. Fatima parveen presented papers. Dr. Bibi Raza Khatoon, Asst. Professor of Urdu, Maulana Azad National Urdu University conducted the meeting.
