Hyderabad, August 02: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) senior leader and Rajya Sabha member M Venkaiah Naidu has warned that the Congress would face another miserable defeat in 2014 general elections if it does not deliver Telangana state.
The BJP leader has demanded that the Congress-led UPA government should introduce a bill in Parliament for creation of a separate state without wasting time.
Addressing a press conference at the state party headquarters here today, the BJP leader said people saw through the double game being played by the Congress on the Telangana issue and gave a clear verdict in the byelections.
“People of the Telangana region sent a clear message to Delhi. I hope the Congress party leadership has understood the import of the verdict. APCC president D Srinivas tried to influence voters with inducements but people of Nizamabad Urban rejected him because of his party leadership’s doublespeak on Telangana,” he said.
People elected BJP candidate Y Laxminarayana from Nizamabad Urban twice as they appreciated the party’s stand on the Telangana issue, he said.
He called upon youth and students not to commit suicides. The BJP leader criticised the UPA government for ‘misusing’ CBI against the Gujarat government and ‘damaging’ the federal structure of the country.
The central government would have to pay a heavy price if they included Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi’s name in the investigation of Sohrabuddin’s encounter case, he said and threatened that the party would take up massive agitations.
