Hyderabad, April 26: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Rajya Sabha member M Venkaiah Naidu has demanded that the Congress-led UPA Government appoint separate joint parliamentary committees (JPCs) to inquire into the IPL cricket and phone-tapping scandals which had “challenged the democratic system of the country.’’ The BJP leader said all the people involved in the IPL scam should be umasked and that only a JPC probe would be able to do this.
Speaking to reporters at the BJP State office here today, Venkaiah Naidu said the Congress was fast losing its sheen with some misdeed or the other coming to light every other day. The latest scandal had shown key persons in government making massive amounts of money through interests in the shady IPL enterprise.
As for the phone-tapping allegations, the silence on the part of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), he said, had given rise to public apprehensions that the operation enjoyed the government’s blessings. Earlier, the BJP leader participated in the meeting of newly-inducted State unit officebearers and exhorted them to work hard to strengthen the party in the State.
BJP State president G Kishan Reddy, general secretary V Satish Ji, former BJP president Bangaru Laxman and many other leaders were present at the meeting.
