The central government has assured the required support and assistance to the Telangana State Government to develop Hyderabad into one of the finest smart cities of the country.
This assurance was given by the Union Minister for Urban Development M. Venkaiah Naidu today while addressing the XI World Metropolis Congress at Hi-Tec City here. He lauded the dedication and commitment of Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao for the all round development of Telangana State.
The Union Minister also referred to the Chief Minister’s plans to develop Hyderabad into a smart city and assured that the central government would provide all required assistance to the state government in this venture. Hyderabad City has a great history and had developed into a high-tech metropolis. It has attained world-wide recognition as one of the most beautiful and modern city with all facilities, he observed.
Venkaiah Naidu further pointed out that people are moving to the cities for better education and medical care, employment opportunities and improved standard of living. As many as 54 percent of the world population are living in cities by the year 2011.However, he regretted that the cities were not developing on par with the number of people migrating from the rural areas. This has resulted in the mushrooming of slums, he pointed out and added that the central government was determined to take up all round development of cities to check the rising number of slum areas. There is a need for developing 100 smart cities in the country, for which the central government has prepared an ambitious plan, he indicated. “It is our endeavour to ensure that every family would have a house by 2020”, he observed.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao said that the state government was preparing a comprehensive plan to develop Hyderabad City to one of the most beautiful smart cities in the country. Pointing out that the city has earned a name for its historical background and cosmopolitan culture, he thanked the Union Urban Development Minister for his assurance of central help for the development of Hyderabad into a smart city. Expressing his happiness over the conduct of the World Metropolis Congress here in this Hi-Tech City, he welcomed all the delegates, especially those from abroad, to enjoy Hyderabadi hospitality during their stay for the conference.
