Veerashiva Reddy opposes move to field Viveka’s son-in-law

Hyderabad, February 18: Fresh problems seems to haunt the beleaguered Congress party in Kadapa district with Kamalapuram MLA G. Veerashiva Reddy opposing the move to field Narreddy Rajasekhara Reddy as the party nomine in the bypoll to Kadapa Lok Sabha seat.

Mr. Veerashiva Reddy met Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy on Thursday to convey his strong opposition to the candidature of Mr. Rajasekhara Reddy, son-in-law of Agriculture Minister Y. S. Vivekananda Reddy. The Minister has already evinced interest to contest the bypoll to the Pulivendula Assembly seat as his term as an MLC ends next month.

The Congress MLA is said to have told the Chief Minister in no uncertain terms that he would not support what he called ‘a weak’ candidate against Y. S. Jaganmohan Reddy, who quit his seat as well as the Congress party to contest the bypolls. He would not hesitate to support the TDP nominee for the Lok Sabha byelections.

“If the margin of win runs into lakhs, the image of Jaganmohan Reddy would get enhanced and there was likelihood of more MLAs joining his flock. This will spell trouble for you,” he is said to have told the Chief Minister.

It may be recalled that of the eight Congress MLAs in the district, five are in Jagan’s camp. Health Minister D. L. Ravindra Reddy and Minorities Welfare Minister Md. Syed Ahmedullah besides Mr. Veerashiva Reddy are against Mr. Jagan. But, the attempt to prop up Mr. Rajasekhara Reddy seems to have angered the Kamalapuram MLA.
