Veerappa Moily lauds efforts of DLF Foundation towards skill development in India

Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dr. M. Veerappa Moily has said that initiatives and support by private players like DLF Foundation will surely give an impetus to skill-development among unemployed and job-seeking youth.

In the wake of Union Budget 2013-14 and the Economic Survey, the government has allocated Rs. 1,000 crores for the skill development for the youth.

As a part of the agenda, the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) has decided to train five crore people in the current plan.

Assisting the government and NSDC in their noble initiative, DLF Foundation in collaboration with several partners which Laurus Edutech, Labournet, Empower Pragati and Don Bosco has set up DLF LIFE Skill India Centres across the country.

As a part of this initiative, DLF Foundation has recently launched two centres in Karnataka- Chikaballapur and Bangalore.

Dr. Moily, who inaugurated the Chikaballapur centre, which has been launched in collaboration with Laurus Edutech, lauded the extensive endeavors undertaken by DLF Foundation.

“As per the Union Budget 2013-14, National Skill Development Corporation plans to train 5 crore people in current plan period and an amount of 1,000 crore has been earmarked to accelerate the pace and quality of skill development in India,” said Dr. Moily.

“Initiatives and support by private players like DLF Foundation will surely give an impetus to skill-development among unemployed and job-seeking youth and also stress on the important role that corporate social responsibility plays in helping to realize the national mission of comprehensive growth and empowerment of the deprived sections of society,” he added.

The Bangalore centre, which has been launched in partnership with Labournet, was inaugurated by GK Ravi, Ex-Zilla Panchayat Chairman, Gottigere.

Sharing his views on the new initiatives, Lt. General Rajender Singh (Retd.), CEO, DLF Foundation said: “It”s high time that we realize the need to fill the glaring gap between what is taught in institutions and the actual industry requirements in terms of skilled man-power.”

“Skill-development and boosting employability among the youth is a vital component of the ambitious vision of our Chairman Mr. K.P. Singh, which aims at empowering communities through education, training and nurturing talent. This initiative focuses on training the candidates thus significantly increasing their employability status through job-oriented professional skill training,” he added.

Gayatri Paul, Associate Director- Programmes, Head of the Skill Development Department of DLF Foundation stated ”this new skill-development centres that we have been launching across the country is a part of the DLF Foundation”s aim to establish 250 Skill Training Centres across the country to provide quality training and certification for employment”.

“DLF Foundation has successfully established the first 25 centers. I am sure that this employment linked training will enable the unskilled youth to attain the industry required skill sets and pave the way for India”s economic growth,” she added.

DLF Foundation was established in 2008 as the philanthropic arm of DLF Limited, to provide structure and focus to the ongoing social responsibility initiatives of the company.

Registered under the laws of India as a charitable organization, under the direct patronage of K.P. Singh, the chairman of the DLF Group, the foundation has been formed with an express mission of empowering communities and creating opportunities for the underprivileged in areas of education, training and health.

To ensure sustainable and inclusive growth, which is both environment friendly and socially uplifting, a number of rural education, training, health and environment initiatives have been taken by the foundation since its incorporation and it looks forward to creating new innovative precedents in areas of rural education, health and labour care.
