New Delhi, August 22: The former Rajasthan Chief Minister, Vasundhara Raje, is expected to meet senior leaders L.K. Advani and party president Rajnath Singh on Saturday.
Raje left for New Delhi to meet Top party leaders after a week-long drama, which saw her virtually defying the BJP’s central leadership.
Raje was accompanied with her ‘loyal’ MLAs when she left for national capital.
According to the source, Raje is likely to step down as Opposition Leader in state assembly and will be appointed as party general secretary.
The BJP Parliamentary Board had on Sunday endorsed the party’s earlier decision asking Ms. Raje to quit as Leader of the Opposition — without setting any deadline for the same — following the party’s poor showing in the Assembly and Lok Sabha polls in the State.
“The BJP Parliamentary Board is confident that the message conveyed by me to her (to step down) will be followed by her,” Mr. Singh had said after announcing the decision. But Ms. Raje defied the party after more than 50 BJP legislators rallied behind her. The party hit back by suspending two MLAs who were seen as being close to her.
According to her loyalists, Ms. Raje may demand a position in the party’s central leadership and also revocation of suspension of two party MLAs belonging to her camp.
