New Delhi, July 05: In a startling revelation, BJP leader Varun Gandhi on Sunday claimed that he was facing threat from the underworld.
Varun’s claim came just a day after the Delhi Police arrested in the national capital six sharpshooters of the Chhota Shakeel gang, who during the interrogation reportedly revealed that the Gandhi scion was their target.
Reacting to the alleged deployment of Chhota Shakeel’s henchmen to kill him, the controversial MP from Pilibhit said, “This is the second time that such a conspiracy has been hatched against me. This just shows the kind of terror I stand against.”
He, however, refused to cow down to such threats saying, “I am not intimidated by such cowardly acts.”
It may be noted that just before the Lok Sabha elections, Bangalore Police had arrested a close aide of Shakeel, Rashid Malabari, who disclosed that he had been entrusted with the task of killing the young leader.
Varun’s mother Maneka Gandhi, meanwhile, has written a letter to the Prime Minister saying there seems to be a systematic plan to eliminate his son.
“It is with the deepest concern for my son’s life and safety that I write to you today,” she said in her letter in the wake of the arrest of the gang members.
“I find it bizarre that we have never been informed of any attempts or even been advised on any security precautions. We simply learn of these attempts through the media,” Maneka said, adding that she had spoken to the Delhi Police Commissioner who had refused to confirm that Varun was the target.
Appreciating the police for arresting of the gang, she, however, attacked the Home Ministry alleging that it had taken these threats “casually”.
The BJP has backed Varun and demanded more security for its leader, who currently enjoys X-category security.
