Shimla, August 20: The Bhartiya Janta Party believes that Varun Gandhi’s hate speech against Muslims and Narendra Modi’s PM issues-led the party to humiliating poll debacle in the recently concluded General elections.
On the second day of ‘Chintan Baithak’ in Shimla, the party came out with a report suggesting the Varun issue and demand for projecting Modi as PM were among the key causes for party’s poll rout.
Bal Apte today tabled the poll debacle report in the ‘Chintan Baithak’ (Introspection meeting) and outlined the main reasons for defeat.
The report also claimed that direct attack on Prime Minister also backfired.
Apart from this, the report also said that infighting within the party also distracted the party workers from main issues. Lack of unity among senior leaders during the electioneering was also the reasons for party’s defeat in the 2009 Lok Sabha elections.
Earlier, the BJP expelled the senior party leader Jaswant Singh from its preliminary membership following his praise for Mohammad Ali jinnah.
