New Delhi, July 13: The police in Pilibhit is likely to file a chargesheet against BJP MP Varun Gandhi in the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate there on Monday.
The chargesheet will be filed under Section 153-A (promoting enmity between different groups on ground of religion), Section 125 of the Representation of the People Act, 295-A (deliberate and malicious act intended to outrage any class by insulting its religion) and Section 505-2 (statement creating/promoting enmity, hatred or ill will between classes). Varun is accused of making an inflammatory speech in the Barkhera area of Pilibhit during campaigning on March 8.
The chargesheet contains statements of 39 witnesses, a CD, a handycam, a mobile phone, and a report from the Forensic Science Laboratory, Chandigarh. The CD and the handycam contain the recording of the Barkhera speech, while the microchip of a mobile phone contains the Desh Nagar speech delivered by Varun on March 7.
The three items were arranged after Varun refused to give a sample of his voice to the police. Varun had alleged that the recordings of his speeches had been “doctored” and there was a “political conspiracy” to defame him. “These are not my words and not my voice,” Varun had said after the footage was aired on TV channels.
After his speech, two FIRs, which were later clubbed together, had been lodged at the Barkhera police station against Varun.
