Following denial of permission by the High Court, the Hyderabad City Police on Sunday foiled the attempt to organise a meeting in connection with 10th anniversary of banned Maoists organisation.
More than 50 persons including revolutionary write Varavara Rao were arrested by the police when they tried to organise a meeting of “Pratnyamana Rajkiya Vedika” at Sundarayya Vignana Kendram at Baghlingampally. Central Zone DCP VB Kamalasena Reddy said that the organisers were arrested for trying to conduct the meeting without police permission.
Meanwhile, Civil Liberties Committee leader Prof G Laxman condemned the arrests and accused the Telangana Government of creating emergency-like situation. Varavara Rao’s wife P Hemalatha also condemned the police action. “This never happened in the past. We were not expecting this under TRS rule in the new state of Telangana,” she said. (INN)
