New Delhi, Oct. 6 : Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh on Tuesday questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s silence over the violent incident in Varanasi.
“Prime Minister Modi is always tweeting on everything, but for some reason he has chosen to remain silent over this matter, even though Varanasi is his own constituency,” Singh told ANI here.
The Congress leader had earlier expressed his displeasure over the government’s inaction on the Varanasi clashes and demanded a probe into the matter.
“An investigation must be conducted into the attack on the innocent seers in Varanasi and the administrators responsible for this need to be punished. Why is the Prime, BJP and the media silent on this?,” Singh tweeted.
Over a dozen vehicles, including police jeeps and a few shops, were torched while several policemen and protesters sustained injuries as they clashed during the Anyay Pratikar Yatra organised by sadhus in Varanasi district’s Godaulia area yesterday evening.
The protest was against the September 22 batoncharge on Sadhus and their supporters, when they were taking out a procession for Lord Ganesha’s idol immersion in the Ganga. (ANI)
