Ibn Salmaan says that he heard one of the sahabah of our nabee sallal-laahu alayhi wa sallam narrating:
‘When we had won the battle of khayber, we began to buy and sell among ourselves the booty that had fallen to our lot. One of us came and said ‘O rasoolullaah sallal-laahu alayhi wa sallam, no one else has earned so much profit as i have obtained in today’s trade. “How much did you earn?” asked Rasoolullaah sallal-laahu alayhi wa sallam. He replied, ‘ I kept selling and buying till i earned a net profit of three hundred ooqiya of silver.’ Rasoolullaah sallal-laahu alayhi wa sallam said: “Shall I inform you of something better than that?” He exclaimed: ‘Do tell me, O rasool of Allah.’ Rasoolullaah sallal-laahu alayhi wa sallam remarked: “Two raka’At nafl after obligatory salaah.”
Three hundred ooqiya of silver come to about thirty six and a half Kgs. According to nabee sallal-laahu alayhi wa sallam, the perishable gain of this world stands no comparison with the everlasting gain of the aakhirah. Our life will be pleasant and worth living if we develop our eemaan to an extent where two raka’At of salaah, in our sight, are more valuable than all the riches of this world. Salaah is really a great treasure and that is why the nabee sallal-laahu alayhi wa sallam has called it ” the comfort of His eyes ” and has enjoined its observance right upto His last breath. Ummu Salamah radiyal-laahu a’nha narrates that the last words of nabee sallal-laahu alayhi wa sallam, which he could hardly utter, were about taking care of the salaah and kindness towards the slaves.
May Allaah guide us all.
