Utter Pradesh’s most dreaded dacoit dead

Lucknow, June 18:Utter Pradesh’s most dreaded dacoit Ghanshyam Kewat aka Nana Kewat has been killed in an encounter with the police Thursday at Chitrakook in Bundelkhand, said the police.

‘Teams of Special Task Force (STF), Special Operation Group (SOG), PAC and officers of nearby districts like Allahabad, Banda and Kaushambi carried out a 50-hour encounter with Kewat and his gang, that ended with his death Thursday afternoon,’ said a STF official.

‘At least three policemen were killed and six others were injured in the operation,’ he added.

As per media reports over 400 cops carried out the encounter that included hand granade blasts and continuous firing.

The encounter which started Wednesday morning at Jamauli village continued into Thursday afternoon. A team of security personnel surrounded Kewat, who carried a reward of Rs 50,000 on his head but faced stiff resistance.

Kewat’s gang is believed to be a ‘residual gang’ of dacoit Baccha Kewat, who was killed earlier by the police, reported Times Now.
