Dehradoon, july 08: The Uttarakhand government on Wednesday recommended a CBI inquiry into the alleged fake encounter in Dehradun in which a 24-year-old MBA student from Ghaziabad was shot dead by police.
The decision came even as the state police continued its investigation into the case. Dehradun Superintendent of Police Abhinav Kumar said all help was being given to the CB-CID team investigating the case. The documents that the CB-CID required were being shared and all the inconsistencies mentioned in the documents were being investigated.
Inconsistencies, especially about the use of firearms in killing MBA student Ranbir Singh, were found in the statements of 14 police officers booked for his murder. While one police officer claimed he had lost his gun prior to the shooting, it was his weapon that was found to have fired at least nine bullets at Singh.
Kumar said the police went through records thoroughly but could not find any criminal record in the state against Singh. “The CB-CID is trying to gather documentary evidence in the case. We have shared all the relevant documents with them. We will investigate if there are any inconsistencies mentioned in these documents relating to the encounter,” he said. “Till now we have not come across any criminal cases against Ranbir Singh.”
