A class three student has died after allegedly being punched by his school principal on suspicion of stealing a pen. The incident took place in the Baddupur area of the Barabanki District of Uttar Pradesh.
According to reports, ten-year-old Shiva Rawat was punched by Chaudhary Dwarika Prasad Academy Principal Lalit Kumar Verma on April 7, following which he started vomiting.
The boy’s condition took a turn for the worse before he passed away on Wednesday.
Reacting to the incident, BJP leader Vijay Bahadur Pathak on Thursday criticized the state of education in Uttar Pradesh.
“The rising intolerance in society is the core reason for these incidents. A similar incident was reported from Bareilly recently. Schools are cropping up in huge numbers because people want to make money,” he said.
“Reckless flouting of laws results in incompetent people gaining access to important posts. Incidents such as these raise serious questions about the state of education in UP. In these schools teachers are able to gain employment in schools without adequate background checks and principals are appointed indiscriminately,” he added.
As per reports, Verma has been arrested by the UP Police.
Further details are awaited. (ANI)
