Uttam accuses BJP, TRS Govts of encouraging communal politics

Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president N Uttam Kumar Reddy has accused the BJP-led NDA Government at the Centre and TRS Government in the State of encouraging communal politics in the country.

Addressing the ‘Kranti Diwas’ celebration, held at Gandhi Bhavan on Sunday, to mark the anniversary of Quit India Movement, Uttam Kumar Reddy alleged that both BJP and TRS have been indulging and promoting communalism. He said both the parties and their governments have ignored the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi on secularism. He said both the parties have been trying to dilute the country’s secularism by not granting equal rights to people of all religions.

Stating that Quit India Movement, launched in Mumbai in August 1942, brought freedom to the country in 1947, the TPCC chief asked the Congress cadre to take inspiration from the movement and launch a drive against the anti-people policies of present government. He said both the governments have failed to fulfill the promises they made with the people during elections.

Earlier, Uttam hoisted the party flag at Gandhi Bhavan. Leader of Opposition K Jana Reddy, Rajya Sabha member V Hanumantha Rao, MLA G Chinna Reddy, Greater Hyderabad Congress Committee president D Nagender, ex-MP M Anjan Kumar Yadav, Mahila Congress president N Sharada and other leaders also participated in the function.
