New Delhi: The Railway authorities on Friday said it had modified its suspension order of 12 employees which was followed after the incident of Kalinga Utkal Express in Uttar Pradesh has derailed which killed nearly 23 passengers on 19 August.
According to the recent report submitted by the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) on derailment’s inquiry report, Permanent Way Inspector (PWI) Pradeep Kumar was responsible for the accident, and “he continues to remain dismissed from service and has not been reinstated” said a senior official.
He added, “While the 11 trackmen, who have not been held responsible in the CRS inquiry report were still suspended from service and regular departmental disciplinary action for major penalty (which includes removal or dismissal from service after conclusion of departmental enquiry) is going on against them.”
Following the derailment incident on 19 August, nearly 150 passengers were injured while 23 passengers were killed after 14 coaches of the train derailed.
The Railway Department has terminated 13 employees which included a Junior Engineer and 11 track maintenance personnel, for “dereliction of duty” in connection with the derailment on 30 August. Four engineers were also suspended following the accident.
