Utility of Social media stressed- Seminar at AU College

Dept. of Business Management of Anwarul Uloom College conducted a seminar on “Open Data for Open Development”. Mr. Sarwat Husain, Chairman of World Bank Communication, Africa was the guest speaker. He told that the monopoly of America and other western countries ended in 2013. Now business is turning towards China, Japan and India. Today, information is not limited to the libraries alone. At the click of a button every information can be obtain. People used to go to western countries for acquisition of knowledge but today knowledge is available through computers in every country whether it is developed or under developed.

Mr. Sarwath Husain told that there are many negative effects of social media but if it is used in the right direction it will be useful. He used a new term “Netizen” and told that in the present era, knowledge cannot be suppressed. At every stage transparency is being implemented. India has RTI act. In a same manner, America has Freedom of Information Act.

Giving the details of the history of World Bank, Mr. Husain said that it was established in 1944. In the decade of 1950’s, it concentrated on the reconstruction of Japan and Europe. In the decade of 1960’s it took an interest in Rural Development. In 1970’s attention was paid on Health and Education. In 1980’s its objective was Fiscal Adjustment. In 1990’s, the objective of World Bank was to resolve the difficulties in Society. In the decades of 2000 and 2010 transparency in Governance is being preferred. Ms. Nikhat Sultana welcomed the guest speaker. Mr. Shafeequr Rahman, Director of Business Management of Anwarul Uloom College proposed vote of thanks.
